International Spy Museum

Open Source: Ukraine & The Intelligence Revolution

Digital Exhibit
Role: Creative and Design Direction

In May 2025, the International Spy Museum launched its new fully digital exhibit, "Open Source: Ukraine & The Intelligence Revolution". This is a first for the museum in its 23-year tenure, and I'm very proud to have led the creative for the experience. The exhibit spotlights the little-known but increasingly ubiquitous practice of Open Source intelligence collection or Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT), and uses the Russia-Ukraine conflict as a case study through videos, artifacts, and other interactions.

About the Exhibit

Part I: History of osint

The site is structured in three parts to guide users through a narrative path. Part I introduces the historical context of OSINT and the beginnings of the practice through historical examples, stories, and artifacts.

Part II: OSINT & The war in ukraine

Part II highlights the use of OSINT in the current conflict in Ukraine, first diving into the history of tensions between the two nations. This is done through video, artifacts, historical examples and context, as well as fully interactive case-studies that allow for a deeper dive into the role both citizens and intelligence professionals in using OSINT.

eyes on russia

The exhibit features the interactive map created by the Centre for Information Resilience (CIR), launched in January 2022, to collect and verify videos, photos, satellite imagery or other media related to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Their objective was to provide journalists, NGOs, policymakers and the public access to verified, trustworthy information.

Part III: impact and the future of osint

Part III encourages deeper exploration into the topics and closes the exhibition with curated resources around OSINT and the war in Ukraine. Resources include videos, further reading, the Museum’s podcast SpyCast, and more.

vIDEOS

Each chapter of the exhibit begins with a short video introduction before diving into the additional content of the exhibit portion. Videos were created in collaboration with Cortina Productions. My team and I provided creative direction and input for the creation and development of the videos.
